FAQs about Dahlia

What type of artist are you?

I am an imperfectionist, surrealist painter. I paint primarily using acrylic paints and found mixed media (i.e. glitter, confetti, wooly worms, googly eyes, etc.).  I paint on small and large canvases.

In the past I have experimented with many other media including: laser cutting, oil paint, water color, fashion painting, murals and more! But now I focus exclusively on painting.

What messages do you want to convey through your art?

The goal of my art is to spread joy, wonder and whimsy. I want people who look at my art to feel a bit more light-hearted, and perhaps even hopeful that there are good things in the world.

How long have you been doing art?

I have been doing art since I was a kid, but decided to pursue it seriously when I was 16. My grandmother is an artist and I grew up doing art with her and my mom, who is also quite creative.

Where are you from?

I currently reside near Boston, Massachusetts in the US.

How old are you?

I'm 27!

Who are your biggest inspirations?

My inspirations range from other artists to entrepreneurs!

My favorite artists are: Jean Michel Basquiat, all of the Impressionists, Vincent Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, and Frida Khalo, as well as many living artists.

My favorite entrepreneurs are: Gary Vaynerchuk, Martha Stewart, Tim Ferris, and Marie Forleo.

Did you go to art school?

I went to art school for one year, straight out of high school. I hated it and dropped out after that one year. I made a video explaining all the reasons I dropped out of art school.

What advice would you give to people who want to become artists?

It is possible! So many people told me being an artist wasn't “realistic” and my answer is, it wasn't realistic - for them. You, are a different story. If you love art, if it's all you can see yourself doing, if you are driven and passionate - it can be done. For more advice on the matter see my youtube video about this topic.
